Procrastination and How to Handle It

I have a broad smile when I think of this. I have been guilty of this from time to time but I sometimes criticized one person I know very well to delay or defer action.

Let’s face it, procrastination (“the thief of time”), is mainly a fear of doing something we are not certain of the outcome. It is self-protection. In some cases, the fear is that we do not want to take responsibility for the outcomes. Think about this and see how many times you have experienced the phenomena and how many times you would want some one to act when you think action should be taken. Some people are crippled by the fear of change. They hate to venture in uncertainties.

Have you ever seen this picture shown below? It is often shown to entrepreneurs.  See how fear engulfs this person on an ocean by himself. This picture can elicit laughter or sadness from readers.

However, procrastination in personal lives or in business can mean missed opportunities. How do you deal with it? One way is to recognize it is a protection mechanism to delay an action we are to take. Identify and analyze all the excuses you are telling yourself and whether your action can make your lives better then take action.  Tell us a situation you have found yourself in and how you took action to overcome procrastination.
